Kotlin - the stability and popularity of a modern JVM language
Kotlin is a typed programming language that was developed in 2011 by JetBrains. It runs on the Java virtual machine and was created as a language that is fully compatible with other compiled languages. It has the advantage of being concise and modern compared to Java. What's more, in 2017, during the Google conference, the company announced that during the development of Android it would support this very multi-platform language, which made Kotlin's popularity increase dramatically.
Kotlin - the stability and popularity of a modern JVM language
As a relatively young technology, Kotlin only released its stable version in 2016, but it is Google's support that has made it a real powerhouse in the IT market. On the other hand, the fact that it has grown on the basis of existing knowledge accumulated by Java programmers, accounts for its stability, and therefore it is often regarded as its full-fledged replacement. The languages are fully compatible with each other, and a skilled Java programmer can start working in Kotlin almost immediately. What's more, it is very concise and more intuitive in conveying the programmer's intentions through his use of clear and declarative constructs.
In addition, Kotlin offers a lot of functionality that Java does not, which is why it is often considered a very powerful overlay for Java. This is supported by the fact that its migration is relatively easy by using the InteliJ IDE option, which automatically converts the relevant classes of one language to the other. Kotlin has a relatively low entry threshold, as long as the programmer knows Java well. Otherwise, understanding the essentials of the language will be too difficult, despite the fact that actions are performed automatically through built-in mechanisms. The use of this language itself is smooth and relatively efficient, while saving a lot of time and producing concise, clean code on par with Java code. Therefore, many companies around the world have appreciated the advantages of Kotlin, among others: Pinterest, Amazon Web Services, Netflix, Uber, Trello, Evernote, Square and Coursera.
